mar 22, 1765 - Stamp Act

Description:

This infamous act stated that all paper and paper products used in the British colonies must be stamped with a special seal. With the Stamp Act , the British government hoped to make a profit with a simple tax on an everyday good. But it did not go over well. The colonists were so furious with the prospect of "stamped paper" that the act was soon repealed. The uproar led to the popular phrase "no taxation without representation." It was the first direct tax appealed on the colonies, but the British received strong neglect from this action, and this also made the British understand that no offenders should be in a trial in court without juries, and that taxation without representation is against the rights of the colonists.
