aug 28, 1955 - Murder of Emmett Till
Emmett Till was a 14 year old African- American who was lynched in Mississippi in 1955 after flirting with a white woman in a grocery store. Till was then abducted and brutally tortured then killed by Bryant and Milam. His death sparked national controversy and international fame on American racism and the barbarism of lynching whilst highlighting the vulnerabilities of American democracy.
