jul 9, 1755 - Braddock's Defeat

Description:

General Braddock set out in 1755 with 2,000 men to capture Fort Duquesne. His force was slaughtered by the much smaller French and Indian army. His defeat was mainly due to his unwillingness to listen to American advice (arrogance) about how Native Americans fight with guerilla tactics. This event foreshadows some of the same mistakes other British military leaders will make in the American War for Independence.
