After the Bible, this was the second most widely read book in the eighteenth century North American colonies. This annual publication included scientific information, as well as quips and quotes that entertained Americans. The author and publisher (from 1732-1758) was Benjamin Franklin of Philadelphia, who was amassing a small fortune through his business. He would later become the most famous American of his generation.
