jan 1, 1933 - Federal Emergency Relief Act
Description:
Federal Emergency Relief Act was a part of President Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal. This was to provide direct financial aid from the federal government to specific states for relief efforts and job programs to help during the Great Depression. Another goal of this act was to help find people jobs through relief programs. The FERA gave over $3.1 billion dollars in grants to states by 1935. This also helped found the Civil Works Administration. This provided employment for 20 million people. Federal Emergency Relief Act helped lay the groundwork for many of the other New Deal relief programs.
