jan 1, 1293 - Westwood

Description:

William of Cockshut’s greatgrandson Thomas, son of Robert of Olynleye, (Hollinhay at Longsdon?) claims toft (a homestead) and 120 acres at Westwood as William’s heir, but the jury upheld the Abbot’s claim that William has enfeoffed (granted) Flora with the land before he died and that she therefore had the right to dispose of it.

The Abbot of Dieulacres claims frankpledge as the Lord of Leek, in succession to Ranulph de Blundeville, Earl of Chester (Frankpledge was a mutual law enforcement by which each member of a tithing area were made responsible for actions of all other members.)
