jan 1, 1288 - Church

Description:

There is a “composition of the church” (i.e. all deeds and charters brought together into one single document) but there is no mention of the glebe. The Bishop settles a dispute between the vicar of Leek and monks by ordering that vicar is to have all of the annual oblations, plus the customary Lent offerings at Candlemas, plus the casual perquisites, the small tithes, the tithe of hay from Endon, 6 marks year from the monks plus the house by church “which it is customary for the vicar to have.” In return, the vicar has the duty of providing priests to serve the dependent chapels.
