jan 1, 486 - Franco-Roman War of 486
Loss of Gaul
Description:
In 465, the governor of the final Roman rump state in northern Gaul Aegidius died. Aegidius was supported by the Frankish King Childeric to his east.
But when Childeric died, their sons, Syagrius and Clovis went to war over de jure control of the northern Roman provinces.
Clovis defeated Syagrius taking all of northern France. His Kingdom now stretched from the border of Brittany to the Rhineland.
