jan 1, 446 - Frankish War
Loss of the Northern Lowlands
Description:
In 441, the Salian and Ripurian Franks sensed opportunity when general Aetius moved soldiers from northern Gaul to deal with the Vandals in the south and the Huns in the east.
The Salian Franks took Roman territory up to the Seine River, the Ripurian Franks took the remainder of the Rhineland the Burgundians had left behind.
These two kingdoms were counter attacked and defeated in 446 by Aetius, but he could not overwhelm them. They would be vassals of Rome until 481.
