jan 1, 456 - Visigothic War in Spain Loss of the Iberia (Part 2)

Description:

After the Vandalic exit from Iberia into Africa, the Suebi still remained from the original 409 crossing of the tribes from the Pyrenees.

Under the direction Emperor Avitus, the Visigoths of Aquitane led by the ambitious Theodoric II invaded to destroy the Suebi and restore imperial control.

Theodoric's force was supported by additional Burgundian and Roman troops. He succeeded in driving them to the northern Galician coast, but stopped once he heard that Avitus had been deposed in 456.

The Burgundians returned to their lands, and Theodoric revolted againt the new Roman government the following year commanding all Gothic forces in Iberia to relieve Roman garrisons.
