Description:

隋炀帝于大业元年（605年）三月下令在旧洛阳城西重新规划建造一座宏大的“东都”（又称东京），由尚书令杨素与将作大匠宇文恺主持设计，历时约十个月、每月征调民工达200万人，建设包括宫城、皇城与外郭城，城周长约五十里，并配套开凿以洛阳为中心的隋唐大运河，将其打造为隋朝面向关东与江南的政治、经济和漕运枢纽。
