African American civil activists refused to ride Montgomery buses for 381 days after Rosa Parks was arrested for refusing to move to the back of the bus
Hurt the city because blacks made up majority of the bus riders
Eventually ended when the Supreme Court ruled that segregation on public buses was unconstitutional
