jul 18, 1947 - The 1947 Indian Independence Act was passed
Description:
"As from the fifteenth day of August, nineteen hundred and forty-seven, two independent Dominions shall be set up in India, to be known respectively as India and Pakistan."
- Pakistan was split into Pakistan and East Pakistan ( now Bangladesh). These dominions separated Muslim, Hindu, and Sikh population, and caused the biggest forced migration which has ever happened that was not the result of war or famine.
- Lord Mountbatten continued as Governor-General and Jawaharlal Nehru was appointed India's first Prime Minister.
