jul 2, 1714 - French
Colony
Description:
The French succeed in establishing a colony on Genosha, under the administration of the French East India Company. The indigenous population is brought under heel and sold as part of the slave trade. During the French rule, slaves were brought from parts of Africa such as Mozambique and Zanzibar. Slave traders from Madagascar - Sakalava or Arabs - bought slaves from slavers in the Arab Swahili coast or Portuguese Mozambique before shipping the slaves to the slave markets of Genosha, then on to India. As a result, the island's population rose dramatically.
