Originally thought to be a short (2 year) bombing war - instead lead to many years with thousands of troops deployed
Went into the war confident that they would gain support from South Vietnam and had "bomb and defend" attitudes
Agent Orange was used during the war in Vietnam, causing birth defects and health problems later (both in Vietnamese citizens and US soldiers)
When war ended many Americans were left hopeless/unhappy with the effects of war - led to a dark time in US history
PTSD became more recognized after war - before it was never considered a legitimate diagnosable problem
