On March 8th, Malaysia Flight 370 out of Kuala Lumpur was on its way to Beijing when it lost contact and plunged into the Indian Ocean killing all 239 people on board. The aircraft, a Boeing 777-200ER operated by Malaysia airlines last made contact with air traffic control less than 1 hour after takeoff. The search for the plane ended up becoming the biggest in aviation history starting in the Gulf of Thailand and finishing in the Southern Indian Ocean. In October of 2014 a ocean mapping submarine was sent to map a comprehensive summary of 120,000 square km of the ocean floor but turned up nothing relating to the lost flight. To this day we still don’t know what happened, however debris of the aircraft have been found along the coast of Africa but the bulk of the plane is still missing.
