feb 4, 88 BC - Sulla Marches on Rome

Description:

Sulla, who wins a consulship over his rival Marius (previously his superior in military commander, who held the position of Consul six times beforehand). Sulla however is politically outmanoeuvred by Marius, he is nearly lynched by gangs orchestrated by Marius. Sulla flees Rome, gathers his victories legions and for the first time in the Republic's history leads an army against the Capital. He meets no resistence (due to the sheer unpresidented nature of the event) forces the support of the senate and proclaims a death warrant against Marius, who flees to Africa where he is assasinated by a slave.
