jun 27, 1977 - Africa Decolonized With the Independence of Djibouti

Description:

On 27th June 1977, the country of Djibouti became the last African nation to become independent from its former European colonists. For 26 years, various African governments had either declared, fought, or voted to become independent, with Djibouti finally separating from France after a national referendum.

Over the next couple of decades, a few more countries would spring up on the continent due to internal separations, ultimately resulting in Africa being home to 54 individual recognized nations.
