A United States U-2 spy plane was shot down by the Soviet Air Defence Forces while conducting photographic aerial reconnaissance inside Soviet territory.The initial denial of the incident by the Americans, and subsequent admission, causes the Russians to pull out of a Paris summit later that summer. Eisenhower's planed visit to the USSR is also cnacelled.
