The Archaic Period in Greece was a much better time when the Greeks started to recoup and rebuild after the Dark Ages. The cities were beginning to grow, trading skyrocketed, and writing came back using a new alphabet borrowed from other countries. This is when the first big cities, called polis (like Athens and Sparta), started to come together. These cities were like tiny countries with their own governments and armies. The Greeks also started to build big temples and statues, and art became way more detailed. Many ancient stories were also written at this time, helping to shape Greek culture. In Greece, culturally, the Greeks had many beliefs and customs during the Archaic Period. They believed in the gods and goddesses who lived on Mount Olympus, and they built huge temples to honor them, like the Temple of Apollo. Festivals, music, and special events, like the Olympic Games, were introduced into their lives and helped bring cities together. People lived in nicely run societies with laws, and citizens could vote or take part in government. Even though each city had its own way of life, they shared a lot of similarities. The Archaic Period set the stage for the iconic things that happened later in ancient Greece.
