Description:

Chinese Nationalist leaders depart for Taiwan with Chiang Kai-shek to establish a new capital while the communist party led by Mao Zedong remained in China. The U.S. supported and recognized the nationalist government in Taiwan and also compromised the chance of creating diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China in those years.
