Description:
The Stono Rebellion was a violent uprising of enslaved Africans in South Carolina who sought freedom by marching toward Spanish Florida, where the Spanish were offering freedom to any fugitive slave. About 50 slaves had gathered and raided a firearm shop and engaged in armed combat against white colonists as they marched southward. In total, over 20 white people and up to 50 African slaves were killed in the revolt.
