mar 24, 1860 - Treaty of Turin
Description:
In March 1860, Cavour made another secret bargain with Napoleon III. he agreed to cede Nice and Savoy to France, in return for French recognition of central Italy joining with Piedmont.
- This angered Garibaldi, a native of Nice who opposed loss of Italian territory
After gaining french support. Piedmont formally annexed Tuscany and the new territory of Emillia-Romagna, referendums were also held in Nice and Savoy, where people voted yes mostly.
(but a lot of them couldn't read and didn't know what was going on or didn't care)
