Shays' Rebellion was an armed uprising in Massachusetts, led by Revolutionary War veteran Daniel Shays, in response to high taxes and economic hardship faced by farmers and other citizens in the wake of the Revolution. The rebellion, which took place from 1786 to 1787, demonstrated the weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation and ultimately contributed to the calling of the Constitutional Convention that led to the creation of the U.S. Constitution
