may 10, 2021 - Coalition Break: CPN-UML and UCPN-M

Description:

"While, the United Communist Party had been comparatively more stable, internal rifts between the alliance, more specifically between CPN-UML and CPN-M was apparent by the third year. (Sigdel, 2021) Disagreements between PM Oli and Dahal, ultimately caused Oli to dissolve the House of Representatives in 2020. Factionism was also not limited to just the wider coalition, it was true for within CPN-UML as well. Party’s senior leader and the general secretary, Madav Kumar Nepal along with other leaders split from CPN-UML to form CPN Unified Socialist and the CPN-UML vice-chair man resigned sighting Oli’s refusal to follow party guidelines, only to join CPN-UML again. This suggested that the infighting was not necessarily due to policy or ideological differences but rather personal interests. (Sigdel, 2021) The tensions finally came to a boil and Oli lost the vote of confidence with CPN-M now siding with NC and many members of his own party faction not voting for him. (Giri & Pradhan, 2021) This was the end of the United Nepal communist coalition.

KP Oli looses the Vote of no confidence ending
the 4 year long communist coalition. NC and CPN-M with support of Janata Samajbadi Party striked a deal "
