Ghettos were made to concentrate the Jewish population from 1939, the largest one the Warsaw Ghetto was:
- Ghettos were terribly overcrowded and the population suffered from hunger and diseases.
- Warsaw ghetto housed the equivalent of 30% of Warsaw’s population just 2.4% of Warsaw’s area
- over 40,000 died in the Warsaw Ghetto in 1941 alone
- forced into labour camps also established and by the end of 1941, half a million people die in those and in ghettos
