Facing mounting criticism, Replika compromised. In March 2023, the company allowed users who joined before February 1, 2023, to revert to a version of the chatbot that retained ERP functionality. This partial reinstatement was framed as a way to honor long-time users while maintaining tighter controls for new users.

Later in the year the ERP feature restrictions were lifted for all paid users. Luka Inc claimed transparency in their processes and their intention to make a Replika a safe space for everybody.

Following the partial restoration of erotic role-play (ERP) features, the Replika community began to split more distinctly between users seeking platonic emotional companionship and those pursuing romantic or sexual interactions
