Newly-elected US President Barrack Obama, following through on his campaign promise, announces plans to remove combat troops from Iraq by 2010. He plans to leave 35-50,000 US soldiers to train, equip, and advise Iraqi forces until 2011.The plan is met with some concern as British withdrawal from Basra, Iraq's second largest city, just a couple years prior led to the city being overrun with militants and criminal gangs.
