As national elections approach in Iraq, 15,000 US and Iraqi troops assault an insurgent stronghold in Fallujah in central Iraq. 38 U.S and 6 Iraqi troops are killed while 1,2000 Iraqi insurgents are killed as well as 800 Iraqi civilians.
