feb 28, 1995 - Hussein assassination attempt
Description:
A five-man team, including Agent Robert Baer, sets up a CIA station to monitor the state conflict within Iraq. During this time, Baer learns of a plan to assassinate Hussein and sends the plan to Washington, D.C. twice, but does not hear back either time. Due to complications, the plan is eventually altered, however, it gets intercepted by Iraqi forces and is ultimately a failure as, despite Baer's pleas for US support in the operation, none is sent and the Kurdish troops are forced to retreat.
As a result, Baer is pulled from Iraq and tried for the assassination attempt. He is then exonerated. This is one of many failed attempts on the Iraqi president's life, many of which were orchestrated by the United States and CIA.
