mar 11, 1970 - Iraq-Kurdish peace negotiated
Description:
Following the war, the Iraqi government and Kurdish leader Barzani engage in negotiations to end the fighting. The Iraqi-Kurdish Autonomy Agreement of 1970 is signed, granting self-governance to Kurdistan as well as representation in government bodies.
This agreement ends up failing as the Iraqi government begins to practice Arabization in Kurdish regions, the practice of assimilating non-Arab societies, such as the Kurdish ethnic group, to become Arab.
