A wave of women-led protests erupt in Iran against Supreme Leader Khamenei, calling for an end to the Islamic Republic and the oppression against women that it instigates. Security forces attempt to suppress demonstrations by restricting cellular and internet access while arresting 12,500 people and killing over 200.

The US administration under President Joseph Biden places sanctions on Iran in response to the brutality, except on tech companies in an attempt to increase cellular and internet access to demonstrators. Additionally, the US calls for an indefinite stall to nuclear talks with Iran as a result of this, as well as their support for Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
