aug 15, 1953 - Iranian coup d'etat
Description:
US intelligence agency, the CIA, and British intelligence agency, MI6, organize a coup to overthrow Iran's prime minister, Mosaddegh, following his campaign to nationalize the AIOC.
As a result, Mohammad Reza Shah is solidified as the sole leader, bringing back power to a Western-friendly monarch. Due to his lack of popularity by the people of Iran, he relies heavily on US support to remain in power.
