Description:
A former slave called Taliq of Safrin, ruler of the Taliqid Salikate, achieves a costly victory against Azrayaqes at the Battle of Qamar, making use of a feigned retreat to lead his best sorcerers into an ambush that saw most of them slain, at the cost of much of Taliq's own elite cavalry.
Taliq's hired Toqun horse archers then inflicted heavy casualties on the Rimanahr cavalry, forcing Azrayaqes to retreat despite having greatly damaged the Taliqid infantry.
Much of western and southern Sughâ, including the holy city of Erud, is left under Rimanahr occupation, but Azrayaqes' advance is stopped and he is forced to delay another invasion to recover from the loss of his sorcerers and much of his army. Northern and eastern Sughâ remain free.
The Salik of the Taliqids returns to Safrin victorious. Having been the only Hakalate-aligned ruler to achieve a major victory against the Rimanahr, and having all but saved the Hakalate by halting their advance, Taliq is declared the Defender of the Hakalate and given the Hakal's blessings to defend Sughâ from the Rimanahr and Ziv.
Taliq replenishes his losses with holy warriors that join his armies in large numbers after receiving recognition from the Hakal, rallying the remaining free rulers and warriors of the Zûrian faith around his banner.
