Description:
Daoud Khan adopts a new constitution to modernize the communist state of Afghanistan, allowing women more rights in regard to school and work. He also begins to force his critics out of positions in the government.
By this time, ties between Afghanistan and the Soviet Union are deteriorating as Daoud Khan becomes uneasy with the USSR's intervention in Afghanistan's foreign policy.
