mar 18, 1965 - Voskhod 2
Description:
The first person to space-walk was cosmonaut Alexei Leonov, the pilot of the mission. It became very dangerous for him, as after only 12 minutes in space, his suit ballooned up because there was no atmospheric pressure to hold it back as there was in the capsule. He was too big to enter the airlock, so had to let some air out of the suit. He suffered from the bends. He later said that there was so much sweat in his suit that it sloshed around. There were also problems on reentry not shared with the world. This put the US behind, but three months later US Ed White also did his own space walk.
