Description:

The United Nations adopts Resolution 242, calling for Israel's withdrawal from territories acquired during the Six-Day War in exchange for peace with Arab states and the recognition of its borders.

Israel supports the resolution. Each of the Arab states eventually accepts, however, Palestine refuses until 1988 due to its lack of mention of Palestinians. Although never fully implemented, this will be a major basis for diplomatic relations throughout the Arab-Israeli conflicts.
