jan 16, 1917 - Zimmerman telegram
Description:
Germany proposed to Mexico that if they joined the war against the United States, Germany would help Mexico get back land it had lost to the U.S. (like Texas and Arizona).
The British intercepted and shared the message with the U.S., making America more upset and pushing public opinion strongly against Germany. The telegram created a sense of betrayal. As a result, the U.S. was pushed to declare war on Germany on April 6, 1917, marking a turning point in World War I.
