jun 28, 1902 - The Spooner Act

Description:

The Spooner Act was passed on June 28, 1902. It gave the U.S. government the power to build a canal across Panama to connect the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.

The U.S. bought the Panama Canal project from the French, who had failed to finish it.
The Act allowed the U.S. to start building the canal, which was completed in 1914.

The Panama Canal made it much quicker and easier for ships to travel between the two oceans, improving global trade.
