apr 1, 1994 - End of Apartheid in South Africa
Description:
Apartheid, which has been going on since 1948, ended in 1994 with Nelson Mandela becoming the first black president. Previous to that, the white minority suppressed all outcries, protests, and opposing parties. This "independence" movement was mainly a way of achieving racial independence because South Africa became independent from Great Britain in 1961.
