Description:
The Zimmermann Telegram, was a secret communication sent by German Foreign Minister Arthur Zimmermann to the German Ambassador in Mexico. This telegram proposed a military alliance between Germany and Mexico if the United States entered World War I against Germany. Germany offered to support Mexico in reclaiming territories lost to the United States, specifically Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona, however the telegram was intercepted and decrypted by British intelligence who then leaked it to the U.S.. The telegram caused outrage in the U.S. and ultimately led to the decision of the U.S. entering the war.
