sep 15, 1914 - First Trenches of the Western Front are dug
Description:
After the Battle of the Aisne, both German and Allied forces began to dig trenches to protect themselves from artillery. This marked the transition to static trench warfare that characterizes much of World War I. By the end of October 1914, the entire front in Belgium and France had solidified into a continuous line of trenches stretching from the Swiss border to the North Sea coast of Belgium.
