jun 2, 1924 - American Indian Citizenship Act

Description:

The American Indian Citizenship Act granted citizenship to all Indigenous people born in United States. Astoundingly, this means that even though some 12,000 Indigenous people served and fought in World War 1, none were considered citizens. This monumental Act, while ensuring citizenship, did not guarantee many of the rights that come along with it, including the right to vote; that was left up to the states, which meant that some Indigenous U.S. citizens were barred from voting until as late as 1957.
