oct 1, 1879 - Electric Light
Description:
In the late 1870s and 1880s, inventors Joseph Swan and Thomas Edison independently developed functional incandescent lamps. Swan's bulbs were successful, but the filaments were too thick. Edison improved the design by creating thinner filaments. This rivalry led to a merger, forming the Edison and Swan Electric Light Company, which by the early 20th century completely replaced arc lamps.
