jan 1, 1971 - Parent to Parent USA Founded
Description:
This program was founded in 1971 with the goal to "ensure access to quality emotional support for families of individuals with disabilities and/or special health care needs" (Parent to Parent USA). This advocacy group sets up a network for parents of children with special needs to be matched with another parent who has experienced a similar situation. This program can allow for parents to support each other, offer inspiration and hope, and help families to develop resilience and growth while navigating challenges. This is an important advocacy group because not only do children with disabilities need support, but their caregivers do too. This allows caregivers to get the support that they need to navigate raising their child, and this allows them to give support to their child while preventing stress and exhaustion that is common among caregivers.
