sep 20, 1819 - Carlsbad Decrees
Description:
These were a set of conservative, oppressive laws that sought to curtail liberal and nationalistic movements in German states. Academics and the press were suppressed in order to limit the spread of these ideals. They were present in Bavaria, Saxony, Mecklenburg, Hanover, Wurttemberg, Nassau, Baden, saxe-Weimar Eisenach and Hesse, along with Austria and Prussia. They sought to limit nationalism among the German people, but it persisted nonetheless.
