jan 1, 1806 - Confederation of the Rhine established
Description:
One of the first examples of a unified German state. It was created by Napoleon during his conquest of Europe, in order to exert his control over German states. Ironically, this would help to lay the seeds for German unification, as it proved the viability of the German people being unified under one state. It covered much of the western Germanic states, purposefully excluding Prussia so they’d have to sit out and watch. This would serve, overall, to create serious German nationalism against Napoleon.
