may 17, 1954 - Brown v. Board of Education

Description:

This Supreme Court case declared racial segregation in schools unconstitutional, but also helped to pave the way for future rulings on the rights of individuals with disabilities in education. This law led to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act of 1975 (see IDEA 1975), as the ruling deemed separate educational facilities unequal. This discouraged segregation of not only students of color, but also students with disabilities. (Antosh 2019)
