aug 21, 1831 - Nat Turner's Rebellion
Description:
Nat Turner's Rebellion was an insurrection led by Nathaniel (Nat) Turner and six other slaves to kill the Travis family, they also managed to secure arms and horses, and enlisted the help of about 75 other slaves in a unorganized insurrection that resulted in the murder of 51 white people. The incident put scared Southerners, resulted in even harsher laws against slaves, ended the organized emancipation movement in that area, and even further developed the opposition of slave-holders and free-soilers that would help lead to the Civil War.
