jan 1, 1920 - (Topic 7.7) Consumerism
Description:
During the Roaring 20’s, the economy changed a lot, and new ideas about buying things became popular. Consumerism grew because people could now buy more things easily. Here’s how:
• Easy Credit: People could borrow money to buy things they wanted. This made it easier to buy things like cars, appliances, and other goods even if they didn’t have the full amount of money right away. This led to more spending.
• Automobiles: Cars became much more affordable, and many Americans bought them. This helped change how people lived, as cars made it easier to travel, get to work, and see family. Henry Ford’s assembly line made cars cheaper and faster to produce, so more people could afford them.
• Airplanes: Airplanes were also becoming more common. Charles Lindbergh’s famous solo flight in 1927 made people more interested in air travel. Airplanes started being used for mail and passenger flights, and this opened up new ways for people to travel.
• Electricity: Electricity was spreading to more homes during the 1920s. This made it possible for people to have new inventions like refrigerators, washing machines, and radios in their homes. These products made life more comfortable and convenient, and more people began to buy them.
